Remedial Massage is an effective way of treating and preventing muscle injuries, pain and soreness. Muscles move and stabilise our joints and provide protection for internal organs. People often think that problems come from their joints but in fact it is minor problems and disfunction in the muscles that cause more pain than we realise. For example, sciatic and low back pain is more likely to originate in muscles than the discs between our spinal segments. Also headaches are often caused by tension in the neck and upper back and knee pain is frequently caused by tight muscles in the legs.
Problems with poor posture (structural alignment of the body) result in musculoskeletal imbalances. These are often work related issues such as RSI (repetitive strain injuries) or can be linked to postural problems from childhood and adolescence. When treating these conditions the techniques used will often be similar to those used in sports massage and simply put we will be helping to loosen tight muscles, tighten loose muscles and strengthen weak muscles in order to realign and rebalance your body.
The best results can only be achieved with patience, commitment and consistency by having regular treatments, exercising appropriately and following advice relating to your occupational and home environment.
Our descriptions of types of massage are not definitive and written in our own words. Every treatment will be unique, as a blend of techniques and skills will be used to perform the most effective treatment for you as an individual and your requirements. Occasionally we will refer you to a different practitioner such as a physiotherapist or osteopath to provide a more appropriate treatment if necessary.
